The Property Economist

​In 1977, I pioneered property economics in South Africa. From 1980 to 1995, I wrote and published The Property Economist—Research and Forecasting for the Property Industry.

Within three years, I was appointed to the Building Advisory Committee, which reported to the Office of the Prime Minister of South Africa. By 1983, at the age of 31, I had already established myself as a thought leader in the industry.

Media Expert Commentator

My role as an unbiased and independent commentator on property was solidified early on. I became a regular feature in pre-Internet media—print, radio, and TV—providing accurate and reliable insights in an industry often dominated by hype. The market consistently validated my research and forecasting, reinforcing my status as an expert thought leader.

Speeches

I have given in excess of one hundred speeches including hosting my own regular conferences for over 1 000 clients of The Property Economist.

I think my most important speech was in July 1986, at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. I predicted the forthcoming decline of the Johannesburg CBD, even as construction cranes dotted the skyline. I forecasted a shift towards office development in the northern suburbs—a prediction that was soon sought after by the head of Johannesburg’s Town Planning Department -the rest is history.

Economic and Manufacturing Reviews of South Africa

From 1982 to 1986, I also researched, wrote and co-published 40 editions of the quarterly publications, The Economic Review of South Africa and The Manufacturing Review of South Africa, which were co-published by Finance Week.

Institutional Property Adviser and Developer

My thought leadership role saw me appointed as the Property Adviser for one of South Africa's largest pension funds, creating a multi-billion Rand property portfolio during 1991-1999.

I ceased producing The Property Economist during 1995 when I became a property developer. I felt I was no longer unbiased and independent as before.

Neville Berkowitz Global Associates 

My thought leadership role grew global wings when I established Neville Berkowitz Global Associates with research-based institutional property advisers in seventeen countries on five continents during 1992- 2007. 

      

Author of 30 free books and a Facebook following of 1.2 million

I have been a prolific author and publisher since 1980. In 2004, I began a new writing career as an author focusing on empowering people. To date, I have written 30 free books available on my website, PersonalEmpowerment.co, which boasts a Facebook following of 1.2 million. My work has earned a 4.3/5 rating from Amazon.com reviewers.
